Is your Business Ready for 2D Barcode Verification?
Scenario: PDF417 is starting to be required and Databar (fomerly known as RSS) is going to launch very soon. How do you verify these new symbols, along with the linear barcodes you will continue to use?
The solution is Honeywell’s (Handheld Products) NEW Quick Check 890 2D barcode verifier. In addition to all of the popular linear barcodes such as UPC, I 2 of 5, Code 39 and Code 128, the QC890 can also verify PDF417, and it will be upgraded to include the new Databar (at no cost to current customers).
The QC890 barcode verifier is much more than an old verifier with some new tricks. It is a completely rethought and redesigned barcode verification instrument. For example, older linear imager verifiers using a “laser gun” type of capture device can not perform color contrast or reflectivity tests. The QC890 houses the linear imager at a fixed angle, so the missing PCS and MRD parameters are tested.
If you need to test PCS and MRD using an older verifier, you must use a contact (wand) input device of the correct aperture for the barcode and calibrated using a certified reference standard. The QC890 automatically configures to the correct aperture and calibrates. All you do is scan and read the test results. Barcode testing couldn’t be easier. All this functionality comes in a semi-portable, durable, lightweight package: “semi- portable” because it has no onboard display. It communicates the data to a nearby host PC (not MAC). The QC890 can tether to the host via RS-232, USB 1.1 (2.0 compatible) or wirelessly via Bluetooth® 1.2 (Class 2) with a 10 meter range.
At first the semi-portability might seem limiting—and it could be a deal-breaker for certain applications. But from a functionality standpoint, the host computer gives the QC890 a huge advantage. Consider: when the test data resides on a host PC, it can go anywhere without any optional, expensive peripherals. Remember the old quick check barcode verifier printers?Test results can be immediately viewed, printed (locally or network printer), saved to hard drive, written to flash drive or attached to email and sent to your customer.
The QC890 is attractively packaged with everything needed to configure it to your laptop or desktop—all interface cables, recharger and even a hard storage case are included. All you need to provide is a Bluetooth® enabled PC if that’s your interface preference. And it’s attractively priced, considering what it does, how easy it is to set up and use. This is state-of-the-art.
