Barcode Verification Service is Risk Management

QC80 Barcode VerifierDo you have Barcode Insurance?

You carry insurance because it is good business. Like a risk management professional from an insurance carrier, a barcode verifier will help you detect and avoid a problem before it becomes a disaster.

Need to verify barcode symbols for a project, but don’t need the cost of a verifier?
Barcode Verification Service from Fotel’s Experienced staff is the solution!

Our service costs a fraction of what a verifier costs.

  • No initial outlay of $2-3000
  • No annual ISO re-certification expense
  • No operator retraining to interpret verifier reports

Be wise—test and assure that your bar codes perform well; AND be smart: use Fotel Barcode Verification Service to test your bar codes for your once-in-a-while projects.

Got a longer-term project? Consider Fotel Symbol Audit Service.
When your verification needs extend into months or even years, use our contractual auditing service to help manage your barcode-related risk.  Verification is sensible, cost-effective and good business.

The excuse "I’ve never had a problem" is no assurance you never will.

Testing a bar code by any method other than using an ANSI Verifier is incomplete and risky. Considering that the liability for a poorly performing bar code could be at least $150,000 in fines, or worse yet, loss of a customer or retailer relationship (which could run into $millions).

Check List: Important attributes in a bar code:

ANSI Parameters
The ANSI X3 parameters for barcode quality are based on the scan profile methodology. All of these parameters are important in a complete barcode quality evaluation.

  • Edge Determination
A parameter that counts the number of crossings over the global threshold of the Scan Reflectance profile to verify whether the number conforms to a legitimate bar code symbology.
  • Minimum Reflectance
A parameter that measures whether the reflectance value of at least one bar is, at most, equal to half or less than half of the highest reflectance value for a space.
  • Minimum Edge Contrast
A parameter that measures the smallest valye for edge contrast in a Scan Reflectance Profile between a bar and adjoining space.
  • Symbol Contrast
A parameter that measures the difference between the largest and smallest reflectance values in a Scan Reflectance Profile.
  • Modulation
A parameter that measures the way a scanner sees narrow spaces or bars in relation to wider spaces or bars.
  • Defects
A parameter that measures voids present within bars and spots within spaces or Quiet Zones of a barcode symbol.
  • Decodability
A parameter that measures how closely the Scan Reflectance Profile is to approaching decode failure for a given printed symbol.
  • Decode
Converting the bars and spaces in a barcode into its corresponding data.
A parameter that determines if a barcode pattern of bars and spaces matches an existing valid symbology.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) specifications for bar code quality testing include all eight of these quality checks.
A failing grade on any of the parameters results in a failed bar code.
