What is a Stand Alone Barcode Verifier?
A stand alone barcode verifier is completely self-contained. The scanning-capture device, the data computational processor, and the report display are all on board. Some stand alone devices also include the report printer; others offer an optional printer or pc interface.

Stand Alone Barcode Verifiers have many different configurations.
Some stand alone verifiers are one-piece units into which the barcode to be tested is inserted. Others have so-called remote scanning heads which are tethered to the central console, allowing the user to take the scanner to the barcode within a limited range. This works better for barcodes that are in an array on a sheet too large to be brought to the console.

Not all Stand Alone barcode verifiers can read all barcode symbologies… but some can.
Systems are available to test linear barcodes only, 2D barcodes, or both. Some industries are upgrading their stand alone barcode verification systems to accept 2D symbologies in anticipation of future requirements. Webscan can configure their TruCheck verifier to accept multiple scanning heads: the operator simply picks up the one needed for the symbology to be tested, and scans the symbol.

webscan_trucheck_101_barcode_verifierIf you need to verify linear barcodes, then WebscanTruCheck Model 101 barcode verifier is your correct choice.  Symbologies such as UPC, GTIN-12, SCC, GTIN-14, are the most common 1D barcodes.  GTIN’s are used on a majority of the products that are purchased in stores.

TruCheck is the first and only verifier to provide automatic 10 scan ANSI grading.  Simply place your barcode sample on the platform and touch one button.  The laser moves over the entire barcode from top-to-bottom - providing 10 scan ANSI grading.  A report is then generated instantly - providing the operator the diagnostic information.

For added versatility the Model 101-R with Remote Scanning head is now available.

The Remote Scanning Head allows you to take full advantage of TruCheck’s features when working with full size press sheets. The moving laser is mounted inside the housing. The base unit is connected via a 6-foot cord allowing you to move to any bar code sample on the sheet.  Simply touch the trigger on the remote head for automatic 10 scan ANSI grading.

Why do you need to verify printed barcodes?
Barcode Verification is risk management and it takes knowledge and expertise to do it right. Most sales organizations just want to sell you something-that’s their business plan. You could end up spending too much, or too little, and not be managing the risk of a poorly performing barcode. That risk includes substantial fines from retailers, lost shelf space, terminated customer relationships and a damaged reputation. Verification is akin to insurance: you hope you’ll never need it but you can’t really function without it. "But we’ve never had a problem" is no excuse.

A Barcode Scanner is not the same as a Barcode Verifier. Don’t be fooled into thinking you can substitute a scanner for a verifier. They are not the same. Scanners of various makes and ages perform differently. One scanner may read a barcode while another won’t. Only an ANSI verifier can tell you how a barcode will perform, and how its performance may be deteriorating over the duration of a print run. Is it a good, solid ANSI "C" grade or is it a low "C" drifting toward a "D"? Only a verifier will tell you. Only a verifier will give you the eyes to see and the time to make a critical adjustment that can save the print run--and the customer.
