What is a PC Tethered Barcode Verifier?
A PC tethered barcode verifier connects a lab quality optical input device to a PC and uses a software application and the computer’s intelligence to capture and display the report data. PC tethered verifiers are not portable but make use of the PC’s broader capabilities such as saving, printing, and e-mailing the report. All PC tethered barcode verifiers are manually user-triggered.

Tethered Barcode Verifiers have many different configurations.
Some are simple hand-held gun-type devices, others are fixed-mounted scanners under which the barcode symbol is positioned; still others are enclosures that are placed tight on top of the symbol. Most PC-tethered verifiers are RS232 or USB connected. Some verifiers are capable of wireless Bluetooth connectivity to a compatible PC.
Not all Tethered barcode verifiers can read all barcode symbologies.
Most barcode verifiers can verify popular linear symbols such as UPC, Code 39, Code 128, ect..., some will also verify certain stacked linear symbols such as GS1 Databar Stacked and PDF 417.
At the present time, no verifiers exist that can test linear barcodes and 2D symbologies, although some Webscan and TruCheck verifiers cam be optionally equipped to test linear barcodes and 2D symbols.

Why do you need to verify printed barcodes?
Barcode Verification is risk management and it takes knowledge and expertise to do it right. Most sales organizations just want to sell you something-that’s their business plan. You could end up spending too much, or too little, and not be managing the risk of a poorly performing barcode.
