Did you know that most laser verifiers don’t perform full ANSI verification? If you are verifying barcodes printed in anything other than black bars against a white background, you are at risk. Laser and CCD imager type verifiers do not test PCS (color contrast) and MRD (reflectivity). Either of these parameters can cause a verification failure and you are at risk. The laser or CCD imager verifier will tell you the symbol passes when in fact it will fail at point-of-sale, and you will get fined--or worse.
A Barcode Scanner is not the same a Barcode Verifier. Don’t be fooled into thinking you can substitute a scanner for a verifier. They are not the same. Scanners of various makes and ages perform differently. One scanner may read a barcode while another won’t. Only an ANSI verifier can tell you how a barcode will perform, and how its performance may be deteriorating over the duration of a print run. Is it a good, solid ANSI "C" grade or is it a low "C" drifting toward a "D"? Only a verifier will tell you. Only a verifier will give you the eyes to see and the time to make a critical adjustment that can save the print run--and the customer.

Verification is an essential discipline anywhere there is risk associated with barcode performance. But verification alone isn’t enough. You also must prove you did, and that the tested barcodes gave passing ANSI grades. Many users assume this requires them to have a verifier printer--an expensive, slow and limited solution.

QC Viewer provides a powerful alternative to printers. A cost-effective and powerful alternative is QC Viewer, a software/hardware bridge to your desktop or laptop PC.
QC Viewer interfaces to your PC just like a printer-but it does much more. The kit comes with software and an RS232 interface cable. The configuration process is quick and easy. You can verify barcodes normally, using your fully portable Quick Check verifier. But unlike the QC printer, to which you must dump the entire batch of saved barcode reports for the slow process of printing out the entire memory, QC Viewer enables you to scroll through the reports, save the ones you want and delete the rest. Then you can print only the ones you need to file with the job records. Furthermore, the reports can be saved not only in the proprietary .sgf format, they can also be saved ass .txt files or even as .pdf files, which you can email to your customer or post to your retrieval site for them to view. The reports automatically time and date stamp. The reports also include a notation or comments field.

RJS Printronix SV Series Verifier
The RJS Printronix SV Series Verifier provides fixed position and high-speed online ANSI verification.
The RJS SV Series Online Verifier can be used in a wide variety of situations and applications where bar code scanning and/or verification is required, including thermal printers, high speed ink jet, card printing, digital print head and conveyerized situations. The SV can be configured to trigger an I/O function to signal a print mechanism failure or below-acceptable barcode quality issue. The SV Series uses a top-mounted raster laser, so reading and testing bar codes that are printed below the top surface of a package or item is quick and easy. Because it is fixed mounted, it can test for all 9 ISO/ANSI parameters including color contrast.
While the SV Series was designed for online applications, it can be configured as a standalone unit. Set up is quick and easy. Decoding and verifying is virtually instantaneous. ScanVision monitoring software makes ISO/ANSI report capture and interpretation simple and intuitive.
The SV Series configured for UPC and other standard linear bar codes is very competitively priced and actually costs less than some verifiers that are not as full-featured.
Hand Held Products Announces The Retirement of the Quick Check 600 Series

Effective December 31, 2007, Hand Held Products will retire all configurations of the QC600 series verifier including:
- QC600 - symbologies only (no applilcations)
- QC610 - symbologies and retail applications
- QC620 - symbologies and health applications
- QC630 - symbologies and industrial applications
- QC650 - symbologies and all applications
Orders must be received by Hand Held Products no later than October 1, 2007 and the last ship date will be December 21, 2007. Hand Held’s standard 2 year warranty will be honored.
Hand Held Products will support the Quick CHeck 600 series verifiers through December 2010 or as long as parts are available.
