What is a Hands-Free Barcode Scanner?
A hands-free barcode scanner does not require the user to hold or trigger it. An onboard sensor detects the presence of a barcode and the hands-free scanner automatically triggers itself.
Some hand-held barcode scanners can be programmed to function as hands-free scanners. Placed in optional stands or holders, they can sit on a counter top and operate autonomously when a barcode is brought near. True hands-free scanners can also be picked up and triggered manually, but they are configured to operate by automatically sensing the barcode, and not to be hand-held most of the time.
