Fixed mount barcode scanners are embedded into manufacturing systems, printing systems, packaging lines, etc. Fixed mount barcode scanners are programmed to operate autonomously and are usually installed in a networked system with many other scanners. Fixed mount barcode scanners are used to capture data for business process, including shipping/receiving, work-in-process, sortation systems, product identification for an inspection line, etc.

Ergonomically the major difference between fixed mount barcode scanners and all the other classes of scanner is that in a fixed mount situation the barcode is brought to the scanner. In all other situations, while the barcode might also be brought to the scanner, the operator intervenes in some way to find the barcode and properly position or orient the scanner to the barcode.Fixed mount barcode scanners can also be used to perform code match, to ensure that the product on the line correctly match the package or order, or some other defined parameter. Fixed mount barcode scanners, when properly installed and supported by software, can perform ISO/ANSI barcode verification in an unattended, automated capacity. Often in this application and in code match applications, fixed mount scanners are interfaced to a light stack and/or an audible alarm to signal that it has detected an out-of-specification barcode. Counter-mounted scanners in point-of-sale systems belong in this category, but are not included in Fotel’s online store because we do not serve this market at this time.
